This post is going to start when I go kicked out of UCT( University of Cape Town). I went through my stages of being in denial about the whole thing and then accepting what was happening, then I had to come up with a plan for the future because this was not the end of it for me.
So what I did was I spoke to my family about everything and we all agreed that I would apply to UNIVEN for the year of 2015 and of course applications had closed so it was me hustling to get into the university as a late applicant. And lucky for me they took me and I had a place to study and something to do.
UNIVEN was new to me in the sense of its environment and the ways things were done in the university. Also when I was in Cape Town I hardly knew people that spoke Tshivenda and that meant I spent most of my time speaking in English and when coming back home all of that changed and I had to switch back to my home language.
The other this was the teaching ways, when I was in UCT I struggled a lot and it was different at UNIVEN, they had a way of teaching that helped me understand a lot better. But UCT did have a lot more when it came to resources and infrastructure, UNIVEN was and somewhat still lacking in those departments. There is a whole reason as to why these is but that's a story for the birds.
The other thing I liked about going to UNIVEN is the fact that I was close to home and that gave me peace of mind. But of course with life struggles will come and try to bring you down when you least expect them, and this happened towards the end on 2016 when something just came into my life and pushed me off the rails for a minute. And it's no one's fault that I did not manage my problems better so as to still function and be productive.
When 2017 came after some deferred examination results came back bad I decided that I want to change what I am doing and do something that I am passionate about and that brings me joy. And this was with the backing of my family, they were very supportive. And this is what led to me chasing to me a chef and going to culinary school in 2017.
The next post will be about my time in the culinary school.
