Procrastination, the thing that keeps me from reaching my full potential. When you procrastinate you tell yourself and other one excuse or another. The best one I tell myself is I still have more time. I wasn’t always a procrastinator, I used to be goal orientated and would do my very best to accomplish my dreams and goals. Now when I left for varsity that’s when I became the best student of procrastination.
The first year was not that bad, I was still motivated and goal driven, so at this particular time I was still learning this awful skill of procrastination. it was in the second year when I was still struggling with school and I kind of felt overwhelmed with everything, that the procrastination got worse. Instead of doing my assignment on time, I would leave it or the last day and since those came back as me doing well I convinced myself that I was just one of those people that did better under pressure. This has gone on now for years and it seems very hard to get myself to stop sabotaging myself and actually get up and do something when it needs to be done instead of when the deadline is the next day.
Procrastination, when it comes to me fells like it’s just me being lazy and I have a bag full of reason to give to people as to why I have not done something yet. The thing is when I have to work or deliver but in order to deliver I have to kill myself the days before instead of starting on time and having more than enough time to make changes to my work. When you leave things for the last day, you are always stressed out because in most cases it not just one thing that you will leave till the last day.
Now how do you get rid of procrastination?
Well it is simple, time management. That’s all; you need to manage your time accordingly. If you have been given a task, don’t make excuses start right away. The sooner you finish that task, the faster you go to the next one. Write what you need to do on a day to day base and at the end of the day check how many of those you have done. Do that every day and see if that actually helps or out.
The is a YouTuber that I like to watch who does this time of style, her name is Lily Singh and on her vlog channel she lays out her plan for the day for every task she completes she gives herself points. This helps her track what the important things she needs to do and what she actually accomplished in that day. I like the way she does this because it effective and makes you accountable for not doing what you set out to do.
Now if you are like me and struggle with this thing, do what I do and start small and don’t allow excuses or laziness win. Take charge of your life because you cannot blame anyone else for you failing to do your task. Stop making excuses and start now; there is no time like the present.
