1. Have good hygiene: wash your hand when you are dealing with food always. Even if you wash your hand in the bathroom, when you get back into the kitchen wash them again. To prevent bacterial growth and contamination of the food.

2. If you have long nail, wear gloves: this is to prevent food contamination if there is anything stuck under your nails. That is why in the cooking industry they have you with short nails and using gloves when possible.

3. Clear as you go: meaning as you are working in your kitchen, clean up after every task. Do not let your kitchen be in a mass.

4. Use a damp cloth underneath your cutting board: this is to help you stabilize the cutting board. Preventing it from moving around as you are preparing the food.

5. Wash your cutting board after each task: what I mean by this is if you finish cutting your vegetables and moving to your meats of pastry or anything else, wash the cutting board. And when you are moving from vegetable to vegetable to avoid cross contamination.

6. Thawing your meat: when you thaw your frozen meat, remove it from the freezer and put it into the fridge so as to avoid bacterial growth.

7. Separate your cooked meat from raw meat: reason being that raw meat is still at risk of developing salmonella bacteria and it can affect the cooked meat if placed in the same space.

8. Wash your fruits and vegetable: this is to prevent consuming pesticides that might have on the fruits and vegetables. It also to remove any other foreign objects or animals.

9. Putting out an oil fire: please do not use water to put this type of fire out because all it does is make it worse, trust me this happened to me and I almost burnt down the house. Rather use sand, or carbon dioxide; gas; asbestos blanket or foam.

10. Knife must always be sharp: never use a dull because it has a higher chance of hurting you more than a sharp knife. As you are trying to force a dull knife to cut through whatever it is you are cutting it can slip and end up cutting you or someone standing next to you.

Try to implement as many of this tricks in your kitchen and you will never go back. They are life saver, this are tricks that most chefs use.
