Coming up with new recipes is one of the most difficult and tasking thing that I have ever gone through. I always thought going to school and learning all this skill will help me come up with new recipes but all it felt like was that I was not creative enough. To actual start a recipe from scratch has challenges like knowing which flavours and textures go well together. Thinking about how to+ will present this to people. The colours are also important but not as important as the flavour.
So how I went around this was I started following other people’s recipes and changing them to suite me and what flavours I wanted (which is advice I got from a group on Facebook). This started helping get creative with food, and the basics I learnt in school made it easy for me to change the recipes or incorporate anything I wanted.
With all that said, following a recipe. It’s not all recipes that you want to change that much, like the baking for instance because most times the change in ingredients will affect the softness or taste. But its all more fun to take a recipe and change it to your desired outcome. All I am gonna say is that when you first trying a recipe try as much to follow the instruction as much as possible, then when you see what you are supposed to have, change it up.
When following any recipe, measure everything in advance so you are not running around when you have started cooking already. Monitor the temperature that is written on the recipe, follow it but always keep your eye on the food so it does not burn. And when they write that it should be golden brown plus the time, check more for the than the time. What I have seen with most recipes is that they do tell you what setting their stove is on and the stoves are really different, most especially ovens.
Things that you can try to invest in if you have the passion and love for cooking or baking are: a measuring scale, most especially when it comes to following baking recipes. The flour and other powdered ingredients change with the change of season, what I mean by this is in the summer there is more moisture and that change the size of the flour powder, if you try and just use measuring cups. Get measuring cups and measuring spoons; a whisk never hurt; wooden spoon. This for me will get you through cooking, and baking.

The place I get the best recipes online, besides the ones I got from home and school. The one I love the most is Allrecipes.com and their YouTube channel. Tasty, twisted on Instagram and mostly just searching for a particular recipe on YouTube and look at a couple of them to see which one I like then use it.
